Printmaker
Bear is a multimedia artist based in El Paso, Texas. Capturing photography; creating drawings, prints, installations, and murals that explore their Mexican/Diné heritage.
Bear is a member of the Print Chingona collective. Including founders Susan ‘Skuishi’ Gonzalez and Diane Vera-Ureño. The Print Chingonas invite other female identifying printmakers in the region for opportunities to exhibit and sell their prints.
Bear is also part of the artist collective LTM (originally known as Live The Moment). We spray paint murals together, build sculptures, installations and create art in any form that is accessible to us. We learn from each other and support each other.
Artist Statement
I express my memories and perspective of my culture through my art. My artwork is a path to connect with my heritage and a tool utilized in teaching those unfamiliar with it.
I often depict people or objects that spark curiosity; whether it be studying the space the object holds or the role that a person plays in their environment.
I am particularly interested in how objects, action, text, and adornment give the viewer a subjective opinion of an object or person (positive or negative).
Each gesture during the process of a work is just as important as the outcome. I treat the process as therapy, a dance, and a ceremony of creation.
